Who will receive your benefits if you die?

If you die whilst a member of the RMDCP, the Trustees must decide who should receive the benefits due.

Please complete an Expression of Wish form to say which of your loved ones you would like to receive your pension benefits and send it to Scottish Widows.

You may have seen an article earlier this year by Martin Lewis (founder of MoneySavingExpert) which highlighted that:

  • Pension assets are not part of your Estate and therefore will not necessarily be distributed in accordance with your Will (nor in accordance with the intestacy provisions if you have not made a Will). So it's vital you tell us where you would like your pension benefits to go if you die.
  • A colleague’s ex-husband was listed on her most recent expression of wish form. When she died, the family had to contest … which was stressful for all concerned.

Please be assured that the Trustees of the RMDCP would not automatically pay the benefits to the person nominated in the most recent expression of wish form – especially if there was a change of circumstances such as a divorce or the end of Civil Partnership. However, please complete a form if you have not done so already, or if your circumstances have changed.
